During the week of May 7th through May 11th Kensington Glass Arts, Inc. is taking part in Construction Safety Week. Construction Safety Week is a time to reflect upon any hazards that may occur while doing our jobs and the steps we are trained to take which help eliminate those hazards. The theme of this year’s Safety Week is The Power of Safe Choices. Every day we make choices on job sites, in the fabrication plant and even on the road. These choices can be something as simple as using the turn signal while driving to a job site or choosing to wear the appropriate PPE needed for a task. But, do we ever take a step back to think about the implications of our choices?
Oftentimes we make choices in order to get a job done, however, many of us are guilty of not taking the time to think about the consequences of our choices and who they might affect. As a way to get the staff thinking about The Power of Safe Choices, we asked everyone to participate in making a safety pledge. The “My Safety Pledge” initiative provided an opportunity for the staff to think about why they choose to make safe choices. Much of the staff pledged to make safe choices for the sake of their family; others pledged to make safe choices so that they can continue to do their favorite activities like fishing or playing golf. Although each staff member had a different reason for making safe choices, it was clear that we all had something in our lives to work safely for.
Construction Safety Week serves as a friendly reminder for those in the skilled trades to take a step back and reflect on how we can ensure we are getting the job done safely. Every week should be Construction Safety Week and at KGa we hope to instill that belief in the staff through My Safety Pledge, and the various other safety initiatives in place (i.e. OSHA10 Training, Toolbox Talks & more).
