Michelle Hoffman Becomes 1st Fleet Manager of KGa

KGa kicked off 2019 in a big way by appointing its first-ever Fleet Manager, Michelle Hoffman. Due to the rapid growth of the company and an increase in the number of vehicles KGa owns it was important to put someone in place who would be able to manage and maintain the vehicles. From ensuring monthly maintenance is completed to keeping the vehicles and drivers compliant with DOT standards, the Fleet Manager would need to wear a lot of hats. After spending much of her time at KGa working with the fleet, Michelle was the ideal choice to take on the role.

Michelle began her career at KGa in the spring of 2018 as the Office Administrative Specialist. She came to KGa after many years of working in Healthcare Management serving in various roles including Director of Environmental Studies, Fleet Manager and Public Liaison, just to name a few. As the Administrative Specialist, one of Michelle’s duties was to help with the organization and tracking of the fleet. She shares “when I was hired, I was told fleet would only take up about 20% of my time,” but that quickly changed as the number of vehicles in the fleet increased as well as the number of drivers. It became clear that managing the fleet was a full-time job, so the role of Fleet Manager was established.

When asked what her biggest challenge will be in this role, Michelle shares “staying ahead of the ever-changing DOT standards which govern the Logistics division of our fleet. These standards are constantly being updated.” But beyond the challenges she shares the part of her role that she is most excited for is providing resources to her drivers like the KGa Auto Shop that was recently established at KGa-Frederick where the drivers can bring their vehicles for scheduled maintenance and auto repair. She believes the addition of the Auto Shop will build a stronger, more efficient fleet. Michelle recognizes that the vans are “rolling billboards for our company and our drivers are essentially customer service reps.” She is “excited to give our drivers vans that they are proud to drive. Setting a standard for all our vehicles’ maintenance, both mechanical and cosmetics.” As far as safety, “driving our brand is going to be a phrase that will be heard a lot this next year. Safe driving and maintenance of our fleet says a lot about our company.”
